Our Doctors Are Part of the Community – Dr. Justin DaigreThe team of specialists at DOC Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine is committed to providing advanced, patient-centered care right here in North Alabama. Many of our board-certified physicians are Morgan County natives who have made a special point of building their homes and careers right here in the Decatur area. One of those specialists is Dr. Justin Daigre. Though not technically a Decatur native, Dr. Daigre moved to the city at age four and attended Decatur schools through high school. His wife is also from Morgan County, so it’s no surprise the family chose to return to the area.“We started our family while we were still in school,” said Dr. Daigre. “We had four kids by the time we had finished school and being near family was a big factor in deciding where to settle.”Like many young people from smaller cities and towns, Dr. Daigre and his wife left North Alabama with no real plans to return. Medical school, residency, and fellowships took their growing family to South Alabama, West Virginia and Ohio.“We were gone long enough to realize what was really important to us,” said Dr. Daigre. “We had lived in larger cities like Cincinnati and realized that just wasn’t for us. We also began to recognize all that Decatur had to offer for us as a family and for me as a physician.”A Community PracticeLike all the physicians at DOC Orthopaedics, Dr. Daigre provides medical care to high school and club sports teams in the area, including Heritage and West Morgan. In addition, he enjoys the luxury of close patient relationships that come with a smaller local practice.“I see my patients at the grocery store, at church, at ballgames, and other community events,” said Dr. Daigre. “DOC has a definite family feel, and I’d like to keep it that way. That’s what distinguishes us from larger city practices. We’re more of a big family treating other family members.” A Remote Opportunity Living and working in a small community hasn’t prevented Dr. Daigre from having a big impact on the orthpaedic field, particularly in lapiplasty for the treatment of bunions. “People tend to assume that if you live in a small town, you don’t get to do big things,” said Dr. Daigre. “But that just isn’t true.”Dr. Daigre notes the presence of the Huntsville airport nearby as one reason he’s been able to work closely with Treace Medical and In2Bones, two companies that share his focus on lapiplasty. He provides training services for Treace Medical, teaching other surgeons how to use the company’s revolutionary 3D bunion correction system, and works closely with engineers at In2Bones to design orthopaedic products used in the operating room. “Working closely with engineers means we are able to combine the best of both perspectives to benefit the patient,” said Dr. Daigre. “Of course, one of the best things is that I’m able to be part of this process from right here in Decatur.” Dr. Daigre is part of a growing team of orthopaedic specialists at DOC Orthopaedics in Decatur and Hartselle. Since 1972, the specialists at DOC Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine have been committed to providing exceptional orthopaedic care through innovative techniques, quality services, patient communication, and education.
