At DOC Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine, the clinical team offers individualized, patient-centered physical therapy with a focus on helping patients get back to doing the things they love. Serving patients in Decatur and Hartselle, Alabama, since 2005, all clinicians are residents of Morgan County and active members of the community. DOC Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine’s physical therapists are in constant communication with the physician team, ensuring a seamless experience for patients throughout their treatment.
Patrick Swinea, P.T.
Originally from Florence, Alabama, Patrick Swinea graduated from the University of South Alabama and has practiced physical therapy for over 25 years. Since 2005, Patrick has served as the Clinic Director for DOC Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine. His areas of expertise include post-operative orthopedic rehabilitation and custom foot orthotic fittings.
Patrick, his wife, and their two daughters have lived in Decatur, AL, for more than 20 years. He is a member of Beltline Church of Christ, where he serves as a deacon of Christian Services Missions and has participated in over 20 overseas medical mission trips.
Nic James,PT,DPT,Cert DN
A graduate of the Auburn University & UAB where he received his Doctorate in Physical Therapy, Nic James has been practicing physical therapy since 2022. He joined the staff at DOC Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine in 2023 and brings a varied background in general physical therapy, orthopedics, Dry Needling, and athletic and occupational injuries.
Nic grew up in Hartselle, AL, and graduated from Hartselle High School. Nic is proud to return home and reinvest in the community that helped raise him. In his spare time, Nic enjoys golfing, attending sporting events, and attending local trivia nights.
